Wheels vs Tracks in construction and demolition: Why the EL500 excels

In construction and demolition, the choice between wheels and tracks is often debated. While tracks may seem like the logical solution for heavy-duty work, our experience shows they rarely deliver practical benefits in demolition environments for removing debris. Instead, wheels consistently prove to be the more efficient and effective choice. This is where the EL500 battery-powered mini loader truly shines.

Tracks have their place, particularly in landscaping where soft or uneven ground demands maximum surface contact. However, demolition sites present a very different challenge. The majority of loader work — over 70% of it — involves manoeuvring debris on flat surfaces rather than climbing over material. In these conditions, wheels offer a clear advantage.

Energy efficiency is a major factor. A tracked loader consumes over four times more energy when turning than when driving straight. In contrast, the EL500’s wheel- based system minimizes energy loss, translating directly into longer run times and lower operating costs. In a real-world application, one of our customers demonstrated the EL500’s capabilities by clearing 20–25 cubic meters of debris per hour — a pace that tracked machines simply cannot match without excessive energy consumption.

While it makes sense for some machines to use tracks, where they need to climb over and break down material. A loader’s role is different: to clear debris efficiently and continuously from a flat work surface. The EL500 is purpose-built for this task, combining speed, manoeuvrability, and efficiency into one compact, battery-powered package.

When it comes to demolition cleanup, wheels don’t just compete with tracks — they outperform them. The EL500 proves that the right design choice makes all the difference.
